Module 1 · Human judgement at scale · Lesson 2
Agreement and disagreement among many raters
Measure reliability when several raters label overlapping items with gaps and ordinal scales, find where the disagreement comes from, and decide whether to resolve it or keep it.
By the end of this lesson you can
- Compute Krippendorff's alpha for nominal and ordinal labels with missing ratings, and explain why it suits a many-rater design better than Cohen's kappa
- Put a bootstrap interval on alpha and set a minimum acceptable reliability from the decision the labels feed
- Diagnose disagreement by rater, category pair and item, and separate rater error from genuine ambiguity
- Aggregate labels by adjudication, majority vote, Dawid–Skene or soft labels, and explain what each choice does to an evaluation built on them
